Sunday 17th May saw Preston take on Doncaster at home. It was also grand final day for the A-league. Just as Victory defeated Sydney fc at home,so to did our reserve girls defeat Doncaster. This day clearly saw our up and coming stars shine.
Our magical Malka scoring her first hat trick by netting four and our new recruits Emily and Sarah scoring their first goals for Preston. Led on the ground by Maya we came out of the dressing rooms looking on fire. Monika recovering from her injury made a world of difference in the back. At half time we were 4-0 up and it was in the bag from here. Second half saw more of the same with some terrific skills from all the girls. The game finished 6-1 with smiles all round.W ell done to all.
The seniors game kicked off on time and we meant business. In our usual home strip of red we had a point to prove. That point being that we can beat any team at (the lions den)home. We frequently attacked to doncasters left flank. It was fitting after about 17 mins that Gulz lays one off to Lizzy and were one nil up.Clearly the better team, saw Bobby in the 21min mark pass one to Jess D and two nil reads the score board. Bobby full of might takes a free kick just outside the box at the 25 min mark only to hit the cross bar. Oddo playing her usual composed game saw her just miss one in the 27th min over the crossbar. At this stage we were creating chances like no tomorrow.A great chip from Gulz at the 32nd min mark saw Maree walk one in over the line. One min later Nicole made a courageous save in what was Doncasters only real chance of the first half.Great foot work from Nicole saw her also kicking the ball out brilliantly.Casey, coming back from injury saw her wanting to play her natural style.Only minutes after she came on managed to score, only to be off side.
Second half began with us conceding two goals in two minutes. We couldn’t believe what happened. It took 14 mins in the half before the onslaught began again with Casey putting one past the keeper making it 4-2 now. Twenty three mins in and Gulz takes the ball from half way and puts it out of reach of the keeper to make it 5-2. Moments later Casey hits one wide. Then Di hits one wide. We were all over our opponents in the final stages. Gulz smashed in her second goal 38mins in. With Doncaster on the ropes,Casey finished the job for Preston by placing the ball wide of the keeper to make it 7-2. izzi’s injury late in the game was the only sour point for us. We hope she will be right for our cup game Wednesday night against Bulleen. Well done girls, thoroughly deserved the win.
