Round four saw us travel to Clifton hill to take on the newly promoted Yarra Jets. The conditions were cold, blistery.grey and wet.The pitch was very heavy due to quite a bit of rain early that morning. There were a few areas the rain filled some pot holes around the ground but luckily it didn’t rain any further.
Mothers day saw the lions brave all elements and psyched up for a win.The first game kicked off on time with a slight southerly wind. We began playing realy well with plenty of passing and the girls doing a lot of talking.Unfortunately we went one nil down ten minutes in. Definitely against the run of play saw Yarra jets go two nil up and then three nil. We were not going to give up that easily. Majical Malka started to play some ones and two’s with Sarah and Aleza and we were looking very threatening. It wasn’t long and Malka weaved her majic to beat three players and shoot only to deflect off the keeper and she followed up and made no mistake the second time around.Three – one at half time. Second half saw more of the same.We completely dominated with reem doing realy well in goals and Ayan getting more involved in the game. We tried and tried but the ball could not find the back of the net. Some how the opposition managed to have a break and score to make it four – one completely against the run of play and that’s how it ended.
The senior game started much the same way with the lions totally in control. With the ground drying up a little the lions took advantage of the situation by playing our passing game. We looked realy comfortable out there dispite the conditions. With Lizzy in goals and her natural composure,we were looking very threatening. Our defense played very tight and we were set to win.
I’m sure Yarra jets had a game plan, however they tried and tried and you could see it on some of their faces, they were exuasted. We were slowly breaking them down. We saw many chances go begging from Maree,Di,Bobby,Oddo and a great one from Jess D that looked like it went in only to hit the side netting. Brave lizzy got everything that came her way and made no mistake with anything that was deemed fifty fifty.Amy,Krystal,Georgia,Julz and Jess B didn’t look to be troubled at the back as they seem to know what the other is thinking. All in all we’ll take a point away from home, and that win looks like it’s around the corner. A great effort by all the girls and great to see that you all put in 110% on the weekend. Keep it up and i’m sure we’re going to get a win against Doncaster at home this week.
